Biography
Phoebe received both her Bachelor and Master of Music degrees from The Juilliard School, where she studied with Itzhak Perlman and Catherine Cho, and was the recipient of the Dorothy DeLay Violin Scholarship. She has also studied at the Australian National Academy of Music with Dr. Robin Wilson and was an Emerging Artist with Australian Chamber Orchestra. In 2023, she was awarded the ANAM Eva Besen Scholarship to attend the Karajan-Akademie, the training organisation of the Berliner Philharmoniker. Since the 2025/26 season, Phoebe has played on a Zeitvertrag in the second violin section of Sächsische Staatskapelle Dresden.
As an orchestral musician, highlights have included an Australian national tour with the Australian Chamber Orchestra, as well as tours throughout Europe and the United States with Berliner Philharmoniker, London Symphony Orchestra, Staatskapelle Dresden and Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester. In 2026, Phoebe joined London Symphony Orchestra as guest Co-Leader for concerts in London and Spain with Gianandrea Noseda. She has also performed as guest Principal Violin of London Symphony Orchestra, Boulez Ensemble (Berlin) and Ensemble Apex (Australia). In 2024, she served as concertmaster of the Karajan-Akademie orchestra in a special performace of Messaien’s “Des Canyons aux étoiles...” under the direction of Sir Simon Rattle for the Berliner Festpiele, and broadcasted by Deutschland Radio. Phoebe also served as concertmaster in Karajan-Akademie projects lead by Lisa Batiashvili, Marc Minkowski and Ivan Repusic. During her time at the Akademie, Phoebe was grateful to be the recipient of the Deconet violin (ex Castelberg), generously on loan from the Martha von Castelberg Stiftung*.
Awards and prizes in recognition of Phoebe’s work include the Nora Goodridge Young Artist Award from The Australian Music Foundation, 2nd prize in the Fine Music 2MBS FM Young Virtuoso Award (Australia), 1st prize in the Fontainebleau Chamber Music Competition (France), as well as prizes from the Adelphi Young Artist Awards and the National Young Arts Foundation (United States). Phoebe has also received scholarships to summer festivals including Valdres Sommersymfoni, Conservatoire américain de Fontainebleau, Aspen Music Festival and the Perlman Music Program Summer Music School and Chamber Music Workshop.
A prizewinner of the 2020 ANAM Concerto Competition, she was invited to perform Mozart Violin Concerto No.5 in A Major, K.219 with the ANAM Orchestra as part of Mostly Mozart Festival. The performance was broadcast by Australian Digital Concert Hall, who described it as “the most brilliant, uplifting performance you could ever imagine”.
An avid chamber musician, Phoebe performed in several concert series presented by Australian Digital Concert Hall, including their first ever broadcasts in 2020 with Beethoven’s Eighth Violin Sonata and Mendelssohn and Beethoven String Quartets for ADCH x ANAM. She also recorded Mendelssohn String Quartet No.4 in E minor with the ‘Dacelo’ Quartet for broadcast by The Violin Channel, and was an artist with the Australian Festival of Chamber Music and Castlemaine Chamber Music Festival. During her time in the US, she performed recitals and outreach programs with the Stearns Point Quartet, formed at the Perlman Music Program in 2021.
